Copper ring Havre

There are pieces of jewelry we make for strength, and others we make for softness. This piece is for softness. Four rings wrapped into a single spiral, with two small hearts on each side of the open space – one at the top, one at the bottom. It’s the kind of ring that means something without having to say it.

I shape each ring individually, then carefully bring them together by hand with round pliers. I work slowly, so the spiral is even all the way around. I make the hearts last; they are pressed and smoothed until they sit firmly in place. It’s delicate work. I love delicate work.

Copper has been exchanged for centuries between people who care for each other. It is worn close to the skin, worn daily, given quietly. This tradition does not need to be explained – it simply lives on.
